America Ferrera (Ugly Better, Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants) thinks The Hills, 90210, and Gossip Girl teaches girls to be well, mean girls.
Us Weekly reports that Ferrera isn't happy with the way female relationships are depicted on popular TV shows.
The star of ABC's Ugly Betty, which constantly debates the themes of beauty on the inside vs. the outside, told the October issue of Seventeen, "If you're watching The Hills or 90210, all the backstabbing shapes... the way we act, you go to school, and you think your job is to find a sworn enemy and be jealous of each other."
In that case, what does Ferrera think about Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants co-star Blake Lively's hit show Gossip Girl? She admits, "I mean, I love Blake; she's a wonderful friend of mine, but shows like Gossip Girl kind of condition us to be mean." (Interesting since Ugly Betty, while sweet in the end, has some of the cattiest 'tudes on TV).
With all the talk of catty women, Ferrera admits that working with Lively, Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel on Pants was a wonderful experience.
Do you agree with America's views on the depiction of women in the above shows?
